Developed by Nintendo and released in 1982, this arcade release of Popeye is a classic single-screen platformer. As the famous sailor, you must navigate ladders and stairs to catch the hearts, musical notes, and letters dropped by Olive Oyl, all while dodging the relentless pursuit of Brutus and the meddling Sea Hag.
How to play
Your goal is to collect all the items Olive Oyl drops before they sink and disappear. Use the arrow keys to move around the level, press Z or X to punch, use Shift to insert a coin, and press Enter to start.
Tips
- Keep an eye out for the spinach can; grabbing it temporarily makes you invincible and allows you to punch Brutus into the water for bonus points.
- Brutus has a long reach and can hit you from the floor directly above or below him, so avoid lingering near the edges of platforms when he is nearby.
- You cannot jump, but you can use your punch to destroy the bottles and skulls thrown at you.
