Pigs in Space starring Miss Piggy is a 1983 action-shooter for the Atari 2600, developed by Atari, Inc. Based on the recurring sci-fi parody from The Muppet Show, this multi-part game puts you in control of the Swinetrek’s crew across three distinct challenges. Players rotate between Captain Link Hogthrob in a Space Invaders-style shootout against egg-dropping chickens, Miss Piggy in a Frogger-like dash across a field of flying pasta and meatballs, and Dr. Julius Strangepork navigating a treacherous tunnel while dodging enemies.
How to Play
The game cycles through three mini-games, and your objective is to survive and score points as the speed and difficulty increase. You can choose which of the three games to start on, but completing one will immediately transition you to the next.
- Movement (Arrow Keys): Move your character left or right (and up/down in certain mini-games).
- Action (Spacebar): Fire lasers (as Link or Dr. Strangepork) or jump forward (as Miss Piggy).
Tips
- In the Chickenvaders segment, prioritize clearing out the lowest enemies first, as their projectiles reach you much faster.
- During Pastaroids, wait for the slower-moving meatballs to create a safe path rather than rushing into the fast-moving spaghetti lanes.
- In Dr. Strangepork’s tunnel, keep your ship centered as much as possible to give yourself maximum time to react to obstacles appearing on either side.
