Out of This World (also known as Another World) is a groundbreaking cinematic action-adventure game designed by Eric Chahi and released for the SNES in 1992. You play as Lester Knight Chaykin, a young physicist who is teleported to a dangerous, desolate alien world after a particle experiment goes wrong. Blending rotoscoped animation with unforgiving platforming, the game challenges you to survive a hostile environment alongside an unlikely alien ally.
How to Play
Your objective is to navigate the perilous landscape, solve environmental puzzles, and escape your captors. In your browser, use the Arrow Keys to move Lester. The SNES action buttons are mapped to your keyboard’s Z, X, A, and S keysโuse these to run, jump, and fire your weapon. Press Enter to start or pause the game.
Tips
- Master the laser pistol: Your weapon has three modes. Tap the fire button for a regular shot, hold it briefly to create a protective force field, and hold it even longer to unleash a powerful charged blast that shatters enemy shields.
- Expect to die: The game is heavily built on trial and error. Memorize enemy attack patterns and the timing of environmental traps, as knowing what comes next is essential to progressing.
