Othello is a strategic puzzle game released by Atari, Inc. for the Atari 2600 in 1980. In this digital adaptation of the classic tabletop game, players compete to dominate the board by outflanking and capturing their opponent’s pieces.
How to Play
The objective is to finish the game with the majority of the pieces on the board showing your color. On your turn, place a piece so that it brackets one or more of your opponent’s pieces in a straight line between the piece you just placed and another of your pieces already on the board. All flanked opponent pieces will flip to your color.
Move your cursor using the arrow keys and place your piece with the Spacebar. For two-player matches, player two uses T, G, F, H to navigate and A to place. Press F11 to select your game mode and F12 to reset.
Tips
- Always aim to secure the corner spaces of the board; pieces placed in corners can never be outflanked or flipped.
- Avoid placing pieces in the squares directly adjacent to the corners, as doing so often gives your opponent a chance to capture the corner.
- Try to control the edges of the board to restrict your opponent’s available moves and force them into making a mistake.
