Game description:

Kung Fu Kid is a side-scrolling brawler Sega developed and published for the Master System, released in 1987 as a sequel to the SG-1000 title Dragon Wang. It stars the martial artist Wang, who fights his way through seven rounds of enemies swarming in from both sides of the screen to reach the game’s final adversaries, Madanda and Kyong Shi.

How to Play

Clear each round by fighting or evading your way to its end. You can use the standard Sega Master System controls to play in your browser:

  • Move: Arrow keys
  • Jump: Z
  • Attack (kick/footsweep): X
  • Start/Pause: Enter

Wang can also wall-jump: leap toward a wall and press Jump again on contact to kick off it, which helps him clear enemies and gaps that a straight jump can’t.

Tips

  • Wang’s jump kick covers more ground than his ground attacks and can carry him clean over most enemies, so leaping past a crowd is often safer than wading into it.
  • A lobster drops from the ceiling partway through round 2 — defeat it to upgrade your talisman’s power, speed, and throw range for the rest of the game.
  • Talismans are slow to throw, so save them rather than spending them on regular enemies; the game’s final bosses, Madanda and Kyong Shi, are where they matter most.
