Ivan ‘Ironman’ Stewart’s Super Off-Road brings the chaotic, single-screen dirt track racing of the classic arcade cabinet directly to the NES. Competing against the pack, you steer your rugged Toyota pickup truck around tight mud tracks dotted with jumps, water hazards, and treacherous bumps. What sets it apart is the shop system between races: prize money earned on the track allows you to upgrade your truck’s top speed, acceleration, shocks, and tires, turning a sluggish starter vehicle into a tuned racing machine.
How to Play
Your objective is to finish first in consecutive races across various stadium tracks, earning cash to upgrade your truck and survive the season. To play in the browser, use the standard NES controls: the Arrow Keys steer your truck left and right, Z (A button) accelerates, and X (B button) fires a nitro boost. Press Enter to start the game.
Racing Tips
- Prioritise Speed Upgrades: In the early shop visits, investing in Top Speed and Acceleration will help you pull away from the pack right off the starting line.
- Hoard Your Nitros: Don’t burn through your nitro boosts immediately. Save them for the final lap, or use them strategically to recover momentum if you crash into a barrier.
- Grab the Cash: Money bags and extra nitros will randomly spawn on the track. Taking a slightly sub-optimal racing line to grab them is almost always worth it for the long-term upgrades.
