Game description:

Released in 1994 for the Super Nintendo (SNES), Illusion of Gaia is a classic action-RPG developed by Quintet. You play as Will, a young explorer with psychic abilities on a quest to stop an approaching comet. The adventure features real-time combat and puzzle-solving across dungeons inspired by real-world historical sites, such as the Incan Ruins and the Great Wall of China.

How to Play

The objective is to navigate ancient ruins, defeat enemies to grow stronger, and uncover the mysteries of the world. Will can use his flute to attack and deflect projectiles, and inside a Dark Space portal, he can transform into the dark knight Freedan or the ultimate form, Shadow, to overcome different challenges. Standard SNES controls apply: use the D-pad to move and A/B/X/Y to attack, use abilities, and interact (mapped to your keyboard's arrow keys and Z/X/A/S), along with Start (Enter) and Select (Shift).

Tips

  • Defeat every enemy: Clearing a room of monsters usually rewards you with a permanent stat boost or opens a blocked path.
  • Collect Red Jewels: Keep an eye out for these hidden collectibles, which you can give to the jeweler Gem in exchange for rare upgrades.
  • Know your forms: You can only swap characters in a Dark Space. Switch to Freedan when you need a longer attack reach and more physical damage for boss fights.
