Game description:

Wave Race 64 Shindou Edition is a jet ski racing game developed by Nintendo EAD for the Nintendo 64. Released in Japan in 1997, this updated version of the beloved aquatic racer introduced Rumble Pak support to feel the crash of the waves. It also features slightly tweaked physics, new ghost saving features, and altered music, while removing the original’s Kawasaki branding. You still race through dynamic, physics-driven water courses, fighting unpredictable swells and shifting tides that make every lap feel completely different.

How to Play

Your objective is to finish first while weaving through a series of colored buoys. You must pass red buoys on their right and yellow buoys on their left. Correctly passing buoys builds your power meter, increasing your top speed, but missing five in a single race will disqualify you. Use the control stick (typically mapped to arrow keys) to steer and shift your rider’s weight. Press A (often mapped to Z or X) to accelerate, B to brake, and Start (Enter) to pause.

Tips

  • Prioritise a clean racing line through the buoys over fighting opponents. Reaching maximum power early is the most reliable way to secure a lead.
  • Learn to read the water. Instead of fighting large waves, use their crests to jump over rough sections and keep your momentum up.
  • To handle tight corners, release the accelerator briefly or lean your rider’s weight sharply before turning.
