Released in 1986 by Sega for the Sega Master System, Hokuto no Ken (Japan) is a side-scrolling beat ’em up based on the famous Fist of the North Star anime. Known internationally in its altered form as Black Belt, the game puts you in control of martial artist Kenshiro on a quest to rescue his fiancรฉe. You must battle through waves of enemies and face challenging bosses using precise strikes, making it a foundational title in the genre.
How to Play
The objective is to survive six side-scrolling stages, dispatching lesser foes before facing a unique boss at the end of each chapter. In the browser emulator, use the arrow keys to move, jump, and crouch. Press Z to punch (Button 1) and X to kick (Button 2), and use Enter for Start.
Tips
- Regular enemies die in one hit and attack in predictable waves. Time your standing or crouching strikes carefully to stop them before they get close.
- Every boss fight is a puzzle that requires a specific sequence of attacks or a finishing move to win, rather than just button mashing.
