Hokuto no Ken 2 – Seikimatsu Kyuuseishu Densetsu is a side-scrolling action beat ’em up released for the NES in 1987. Based on the legendary post-apocalyptic martial arts manga and anime, the game follows Kenshiro as he fights his way through wasteland thugs and powerful rival masters. Better known to international players as Fist of the North Star, this Japanese release offers challenging brawler gameplay where mastering the deadly Hokuto Shinken techniques is the only way to survive.
How to Play
Your goal is to guide Kenshiro through multiple side-scrolling stages, defeating regular enemies before facing off against a powerful boss at the end of each level. Kenshiro can punch and kick his way through foes, but collecting power-up stars dropped by specific enemies will increase his martial arts power, eventually unlocking devastating rapid-fire attacks.
Default browser controls for the NES: use the arrow keys (D-pad) to move, jump, and crouch. Press Z and X (A and B buttons) to punch and kick, and use Enter and Shift (Start and Select) to pause or confirm choices. Pressing Up on the D-pad (Up arrow) is often required to enter doors or proceed to the boss room.
Tips
- Prioritise enemies that drop power-up stars. A fully powered-up Kenshiro can attack much faster and deal significantly more damage, which is crucial for the later stages.
- Every boss requires a specific sequence of strikes to their weak points. If your attacks aren’t doing damage, try alternating between high punches, low kicks, or jumping strikes until you find their vulnerability.
