Hayauchi Super Igo is a traditional board game simulation released in 1989 for the Nintendo Famicom. Developed by Home Data and published by Namco in Japan, the game brings the classic strategy of Go to the 8-bit console, allowing players to test their skills against a computer opponent on the digital board.
How to Play
The objective is to claim more territory on the board than your opponent by surrounding empty spaces and capturing their stones. In the browser, use the Arrow Keys to move your cursor across the grid and press Z (mapping to the A button) to place a stone. The X key (B button) and Enter (Start) are used to navigate the in-game menus to pass your turn or resign when the match is over.
Tips
Because the game was exclusively released in Japan, all menu text is in Japanese. For players who cannot read the language, you will need to rely on some trial and error to figure out which options correspond to passing a turn or conceding the match. Additionally, the game’s AI is known to have some eccentric habits, such as occasionally refusing to play standard “ko” fights, which you can use to your advantage.
