Gumshoe is a 1986 action shooter developed by Nintendo for the NES. Originally designed for the NES Zapper light gun, it plays like an auto-scrolling platformer where you don’t directly control the character’s movement. You play as Mr. Stevenson, an ex-FBI detective who walks continuously to the right, and your only interaction is shooting.
How to play
Shoot anywhere on the screen to make Mr. Stevenson jump over pits and obstacles, and shoot directly at enemies to destroy them. Your goal is to guide him safely to the end of each stage while managing a strict bullet count.
Tips
- Conserve your ammunition. Shooting just to jump drains your bullets, and running out completely will cost you a life.
- Prioritize shooting the red balloons that float across the screen, as each one collected replenishes your ammo.
