Gomoku Narabe (Japan) (Proto) is a traditional board game released for the NES in 1983. This prototype version offers an early look at the classic Japanese strategy game of Gomoku, also known as Five in a Row, where you compete to align your stones on a grid.
How to Play
The objective is to be the first player to form an unbroken line of five stones of your color horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. You can move the cursor using the Arrow keys (D-pad) and place a stone with the Z key (A button). Use the X key (B button) to cancel an action, and Enter/Shift (Start/Select) to navigate menus.
Tips
Control the center of the board early on to maximize your strategic options. Always keep an eye on your opponent’s linesโif they manage to align three stones with open ends (an “open three”), you must block them immediately or they will win on the next turn.
