The Real Ghostbusters Remastered (often known as Ghostbusters Remastered) is a comprehensive NES ROM hack created by nesrocks that completely overhauls the original 1988 release. Instead of the notoriously frustrating gameplay of the original, this version doubles performance, fixes numerous bugs, and vastly improves the driving and stair-climbing mechanics. The graphics have also been heavily updated, importing higher-quality character sprites and Slimer from the Famicom’s The New Ghostbusters II.
How to Play
Your objective is to build your franchise, catch ghosts to earn money, and ultimately defeat Gozer. The improved controls make navigating the city and catching ghosts much fairer. Use the D-pad to move, A and B for actions and your proton pack, and Start/Select to pause or access menus (mapped to your keyboard’s arrow keys, Z/X, and Enter/Shift in the browser).
Tips
- Easy Mode: If you want a head start, press A + B + Start at the title screen to begin the game with $10,000.
- Driving: The driving mechanics are much more reliable now, making it easier to maneuver around other cars without losing money.
