Ghostbusters (1988) on the NES is an action-management game based on the hit 1984 film, developed by Bits Laboratory and published by Activision. You run a ghost-catching franchise in New York City, starting by purchasing a vehicle and equipment with a limited initial budget. The gameplay shifts between a top-down driving sequence where you navigate the city map, and an action phase where you deploy traps to capture roaming ghosts before they slime your team. Earning money allows you to buy better gear to prepare for the final, notoriously difficult challenge at the Temple of Zuul.
How to Play
The objective is to earn enough money and buy the right equipment to enter the Zuul building before the city's PK energy meter reaches 9999. During ghost-catching encounters, position your two Ghostbusters with the D-pad, press A to drop the trap, and press A again to fire your proton beams to pull the ghosts down into the trap. Default NES controls: use the arrow keys to move, Z for A, X for B, Enter for Start, and Shift for Select.
Tips
Buy the Ghost Vacuum: Make this your first purchase. It allows you to suck up roaming ghosts while driving, which is the easiest way to prevent the city's PK energy level from rising too quickly.
Trap Placement: Position your two characters far apart and place the trap exactly in the center. This gives you the widest beam coverage to catch ghosts without getting slimed.
