Game description:

Based on the 1986 sci-fi anime film, Gall Force: Eternal Story is an ambitious vertical-scrolling shoot ’em up developed by HAL Laboratory for the Famicom Disk System. You pilot the Star Leaf starship as the protagonist Rabby, embarking on a rescue mission across space to save six missing Solnoid crew members from the biomechanical Paranoid alien race. Rather than a straight linear progression, the game utilizes a unique hub-world structure where you can choose which enemy fortress to tackle next.

How to Play

Your objective is to locate and rescue all six of your missing crewmates by defeating the Paranoid fortresses at the end of each stage. Every rescued pilot expands your ship’s arsenal with a new fighting modeโ€”such as spread shots, lasers, or directional fire. Use the Arrow Keys to maneuver your ship and press Z to fire. Use the X button to deploy the specific weapon configuration of your current pilot, and press Enter or Shift to switch between the crew members you have rescued on the fly.

Tips

  • Rescue strategically: The weapons provided by rescued crew members are essential for surviving the game’s steep difficulty. Swap pilots actively to find the best firing pattern for the enemies on screen.
  • Mind your shields: Unlike many contemporary shmups, the Star Leaf can absorb multiple hits before being destroyed, so don’t panic if you graze an enemy projectile.
  • Prepare for the boss rush: Rescuing all six crew members unlocks the final area, where you must defeat every previously encountered fortress boss in succession to complete the game.
