Front Line is a pioneering run-and-gun arcade game released by Taito in 1982. As a lone soldier dropped into hostile territory, your objective is to advance upward through enemy lines, taking out infantry and avoiding hazards. The game is notable for being one of the earliest examples of its genre and for introducing the mechanic of commandeering abandoned enemy vehiclesโallowing you to hop into light and heavy tanks to gain superior firepower and armor.
How to Play
Move your soldier using the arrow keys. Use the action keys to fire your pistol and throw grenades in an arc. When you find an unoccupied tank, approach it and press the action button to jump in. The light tank is nimbler but vulnerable, while the heavy tank moves slower but can withstand more hits and fires a larger cannon.
Tips
- When your tank is hit and begins flashing, immediately press the button to bail out before it explodes, or you will lose a life.
- Grenades are thrown in an arc and take time to land, so lead your targets when aiming at moving enemy soldiers.
- At the end of the battlefield, you must destroy the enemy fortress by throwing a grenade into it.
