Front Mission 3 is a legendary tactical RPG developed by Square and released for the PlayStation in 1999. It brought the series’ signature mecha warfare to a global audience, offering an expansive sci-fi storyline that uniquely splits into two completely different campaigns based on an early dialogue choice. Players command squads of towering wanzers in turn-based, grid-style battles that emphasize strategy and part-specific damage.
How to Play
In battle, your objective is to strategically outmaneuver and destroy enemy units while managing your squad’s health and Action Points (AP). By default, the PlayStation’s D-pad is used to navigate menus and move your wanzers across the grid map. The Cross button confirms selections, while the Circle button cancels. You can adjust the camera during combat using the shoulder buttons.
Tips
- Target arms and legs: Destroying an enemy wanzer’s arms disables their equipped weapons, while destroying their legs significantly reduces their mobility.
- Manage your AP: Every action, from moving to attacking, costs Action Points. Ending a turn with spare AP can allow your pilots to perform crucial counterattacks during the enemy phase.
- Capture enemy mechs: Dealing heavy damage can sometimes force an enemy pilot to surrender or eject. This allows you to capture their mech intact at the end of the battle and strip it for valuable parts.
