Released for the Super Nintendo in 1993 by Aicom and Sammy, Football Fury (known in Japan as Ultimate Football) is an arcade-style American football game with a unique perspective. Instead of the typical vertical or isometric viewpoint found in most 16-bit football titles, it opts for a closer, side-scrolling horizontal field. This shifts the focus toward fast-paced action and quick reflexes over deep strategic simulation.
How to Play
Your objective is to outscore the opposing team by advancing the ball down the field for touchdowns or field goals. Control your selected player using the arrow keys (D-pad). The primary actions for passing, tackling, and switching players are mapped to Z, X, S, and A (the SNES face buttons). Press Enter (Start) to pause the game or call timeouts.
Tips
- Master the passing meter: Passing requires holding the button to build power on an on-screen meter. The CPU defense is aggressive, so you must gauge the required power and release the ball quickly to avoid a sack.
- Throw short passes: Because of the cramped horizontal viewpoint, it is difficult to see receivers far downfield. Rely on quick, short passes rather than long bombs.
- Don’t linger in the pocket: Your offensive line will sometimes let defenders through immediately. Make quick play calls and get rid of the ball fast to keep the defense off balance.
