Faxanadu Uncensored Edition is a graphic modification of the classic NES action-RPG, created by Safaribans. This ROM hack restores the original visual elements from the Japanese Famicom release that were censored or altered for the Western localization, most notably replacing the simplified clinic signs with the original crosses on churches. You still explore the massive World Tree, upgrade your equipment, and battle monsters to save the Elven King’s realm.

How to Play

Navigate the interconnected branches of the World Tree, defeat enemies to collect gold and experience, and upgrade your weapons, armor, and magic. The standard NES controls apply in the browser: use the Arrow Keys to move and climb, Z to jump, and X to attack with your sword or cast magic. Press Enter to access the inventory screen and select your equipped items, and Shift for Select.

Tips

• Always write down your mantra (password) when visiting a Guru in a town, as dying will return you to the last Guru you spoke with.
• Keep the Hand Dagger equipped when you are short on gold; it deals less damage but is faster than the longsword.
• Magic uses up the magic meter, so keep an eye on your blue potion supply or rest at inns to replenish it before entering dangerous areas.
