Faxanadu Facelift is a fan-made ROM hack of the classic NES action RPG, created by Ice Ranger. This “Uncensored + Color Edit” version enhances the original Faxanadu by restoring visual elements that were censored in the Western release. Alongside these restorations, the hack updates the color palettes to create a more vibrant world while maintaining the iconic side-scrolling platforming and RPG mechanics.

How to Play

As the wandering hero returning to your hometown at the base of the World Tree, you must explore its branches to stop an invasion of monsters. Use your sword and magic to defeat enemies, collect gold, and purchase upgrades. For the NES controls in your browser, use the arrow keys to move, Z to jump (A button), X to attack or use magic (B button), Enter to pause (Start), and Shift for Select.

Tips

• Speak to the Guru in every town to receive your mantra (password) so you do not lose your progress.
• Magic is tied to your equipped spell and consumes MP. Remember to stock up on Red Potions to restore health during long climbs.
• Buy the best armor and weapons available at the shops, as taking damage from later enemies can quickly deplete your life.
