Game description:

Developed by Telenet Japan in 1991, Exile – Toki no Hazama he is an ambitious action-RPG for the Sega Genesis. Originally a console reimagining of the computer game XZR II, it follows the journey of a Syrian assassin named Sadler. The gameplay blends two distinct styles: players explore towns and the overworld from a top-down perspective to gather clues and supplies, then transition into fast-paced side-scrolling action sequences for combat and dungeon exploration.

How to Play

Your objective is to guide Sadler through historical and mythical settings, battling enemies and unraveling a complex time-traveling plot. In the browser, use the arrow keys to move Sadler. The Genesis A, B, and C buttons are mapped to Z, X, and C on your keyboard. In the side-scrolling segments, press X to attack with your sword, C to jump, and Z to access your magic and items menu. Press Enter to pause the game.

Tips

  • Take time to grind for experience and currency in the side-scrolling areas before progressing the story; enemies respawn when you leave a screen, making it easy to level up.
  • Always buy the best available equipment in towns, as Sadler’s defense is crucial for surviving later dungeons.
  • Don’t forget to talk to every NPC in the top-down sections, as progressing the plot often requires triggering specific conversations.
