Released by Sega for the Game Gear in 1993, Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine is a fast-paced puzzle game based on the popular Japanese Puyo Puyo series. Instead of simply clearing blocks, you face off against characters from the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog animated series, working to outsmart each opponent by chaining together combos that send garbage beans onto their side of the screen.
How to play
The objective is to clear your board by matching four or more beans of the same color, ensuring your screen does not fill to the top before your opponent’s does. In the browser emulator, use the Arrow Keys to steer the falling beans, and press Z or X to rotate them into position. Press Enter to start or pause the action.
Tips
Focus on setting up chain reactions rather than just making single matches. By arranging your beans so that clearing one group causes another group to fall and instantly match, you will drop massive amounts of Refugee Beans onto your opponent’s board—an essential strategy to survive the later stages.
