Game description:

Crossbow: The Legend of William Tell is an action-shooter released for the Atari 2600 in 1983, bringing Exidy’s arcade classic to the home console. Rather than controlling a protagonist directly, you act as an unseen protector, moving a crosshair to shoot incoming threats and environmental hazards to safely guide a group of friends across dangerous landscapes like deserts, caverns, and jungles.

How to play

Your goal is to ensure at least one companion survives the trek across the screen, which earns you a new friend for the party and allows you to choose your next path on the map. Because the Atari 2600 port uses a standard controller rather than a light gun, you must manually aim your reticle to shoot enemies before they touch your companions.

Tips

  • Watch the environment closelyโ€”some screens require you to shoot specific objects, such as ice blocks, to create a bridge for your party to cross safely.
  • Since moving the reticle with a joystick takes more time than pointing a light gun, try to anticipate where enemies will spawn and keep your crosshair centered to minimize travel time.
