Game description:

Banana Prince is a colorful 1991 action-platformer developed by KID. Originally released exclusively in Japan and Germany, this hidden gem for the NES is presented here featuring KingMike’s English translation patch, making its quirky trivia mini-games fully accessible. You guide the island-dwelling prince through whimsical fruit-themed worlds to recover his kingdom’s stolen treasures. The game stands out with its creative platforming mechanics, hidden shops, and charming 8-bit graphics.

How to Play

Your objective is to reach the end of each side-scrolling stage while collecting rings to spend on weapon upgrades, health, and items. The Prince’s unique ability is planting seeds that instantly grow into climbable vines, which are essential for reaching higher platforms and bypassing obstacles. Move using the arrow keys, jump with the Z key, and swing your axe or plant a seed using the X key. Press Enter to start or pause the game.

Tips

  • Master the Vines: You can spawn a vine almost anywhere on solid ground. Use them not just for climbing, but to create temporary defensive barriers against enemy projectiles.
  • Save Your Rings: Prioritize buying a better weapon or an extended health bar from the hidden shops before spending your hard-earned currency on the gambling mini-games.
  • Upgrade Early: Your starting axe has a very short attack range. Purchasing a longer weapon or a projectile attack will make the boss fights significantly easier.
