Asmik-kun World 2 is a 1991 Game Boy puzzle-action game developed by Cyclone System and published by Asmik in Japan only, as the sequel to Boomer’s Adventure in ASMIK World. It belongs to the “trap-’em-up” tradition alongside games like Heiankyo Alien and Space Panic, but swaps digging holes for a road-building premise: on each screen, you lay a fixed set of single-tile road pieces — straight runs and left/right turns — to connect the entrance to the exit and lead kidnapped children safely home.
How to play
Every level gives you a specific set of road tiles, and you have to use all of them to complete the path, so the puzzle is figuring out the one layout that fits. While you’re building, enemies roam the screen and can grab a child before you finish; if one attacks, the action cuts to a separate combat screen that plays like a stripped-down Bomberman, where you maneuver around obstacles and drop bombs to fight it off. Lose that fight and the enemy escapes with the child and costs you one of your three lives.
Controls (Game Boy): Arrow Keys to move and place road pieces or maneuver in combat, Z for the A button, X for the B button, Enter for Start, and Shift for Select.
Tips
- Study the full set of road pieces you’re given before placing any — since every tile must be used, the first piece you drop can lock you out of the only valid path.
- Don’t panic when combat interrupts a puzzle: clear the Bomberman-style skirmish as fast as possible and get back to laying road, since more enemies keep appearing the longer you’re away from it.
- The difficulty ramps up steadily by world; the final stage, 4-4, packs 18 separate road puzzles into a single level, so use the password system to pick back up if your three lives run out.
