Battleship for the Game Boy brings the classic tactical naval combat board game to a portable format. Players secretly position their fleet of five vessels on a grid, then take turns firing blindly into enemy waters to find and sink the opposing armada before their own is destroyed.
How to Play
Your objective is to sink all five of the enemy’s ships. Use the arrow keys (D-pad) to maneuver your targeting crosshair over the grid, and press Z (A button) to fire your shots. A hit or miss is recorded on your radar screen, helping you deduce the position of the remaining hidden ships.
Strategy Tips
- Checkerboard search: Fire your initial shots in a diagonal checkerboard pattern. Since the smallest ship (the Destroyer) is two squares long, this guarantees you will eventually hit every ship without checking every single square.
- Confirm the sink: When you score a hit, fire at the adjacent squares in a straight line until the game confirms the ship has sunk. Don’t waste shots diagonally from a hit.
