Armor Battle (also known as Armor Ambush) is a competitive, two-player tank combat game developed by Mattel Electronics for the Atari 2600 in 1979. Unlike simpler shooters of the era, it introduces a deep tactical element by giving each player control of two tanks simultaneously. You battle head-to-head across randomly selected terrain filled with foliage, water, and barriers, switching between your vehicles to outmaneuver your opponent.
How to play
This is a multiplayer-only game with no AI opponent, so you will need a second player. The objective is to destroy your opponent's tanks using the environment to your advantage. Player 1 moves with the Arrow keys and fires with Spacebar, while Player 2 moves with T, F, G, H and fires with A.
Tips
- Position your inactive tank strategically before switching to your active one. You can use it to block narrow passages or set up a crossfire.
- Take advantage of the environment. Hide in the foliage to mask your movements, and remember that water obstacles slow your tank down, leaving you vulnerable.
