Arm Wrestling is a 1985 arcade sports game developed by Nintendo. Created as a spin-off to the hugely successful Punch-Out!! series, it uses similar dual-monitor hardware and shares its focus on timing, pattern recognition, and colorful opponentsโincluding a cameo by Bald Bull under the guise of “Mask X”. Rather than relying purely on button-mashing, you must watch your opponent’s facial expressions to anticipate their attacks and land perfectly timed counters to win the match before the one-minute timer runs out.
How to Play
The original arcade cabinet used a joystick and a single Action button. In this browser version, you can play using your keyboard:
- Insert Coin / Start: Press 5 to insert a coin, then 1 to start the match.
- Attack (Push): Press the Left Arrow repeatedly to drive your opponent’s arm down.
- Counter-Attack: Press the Right Arrow exactly when the opponent begins their attack to catch them off guard and stun them.
- Power Push: Once an opponent is stunned, rapidly press the Action Button (Z or X) to inflict massive damage.
- Defend: If you are being pinned, quickly alternate between Left Arrow and Right Arrow to break free.
- Special Actions: Press the Up Arrow in specific situations, such as catching falling money bags or pulling off Mask X’s mask.
Tips
- Watch their faces: Opponents will always telegraph their attacks by making a strange face or shifting their posture. Wait for this visual cue before hitting the counter-attack direction.
- Mind the false start: Do not touch the controls before the announcer officially starts the match, or you will be penalized with a foul.
