Game description:

Released exclusively in Japan for the Famicom (NES) in 1988, this Taito-developed visual novel adventure adapts the iconic anime film of the same name. Players step into the shoes of Kaneda, navigating the cyberpunk streets of Neo-Tokyo through a series of interactive menu choices and atmospheric 8-bit cinematic scenes.

How to Play

The game progresses through a text-based, menu-driven interface where you select actions to interact with characters and the environment. Use the arrow keys to navigate the command menus, Z (A button) to confirm selections or advance dialogue, and X (B button) to cancel choices. The Enter key (Start) begins the game. Since the text is entirely in Japanese, progressing without knowing the language will require methodically testing different menu options.

Tips

  • During critical encounters, selecting the wrong option can result in an immediate Game Over, so think carefully when a situation seems dangerous.
  • If you find yourself stuck and unable to progress the story, try speaking to the same character multiple times or revisiting a previous location to trigger a new event.
