Sky Destroyer is a pseudo-3D shoot ’em up released for the Famicom in 1985 by Taito. You pilot a World War II Japanese monoplane over endless oceans, battling waves of enemy fighters, bombers, and naval vessels. The game features a dynamic day-and-night cycle as you progress through increasingly difficult stages to take down the enemy’s heavily armed bomber boss at the end of each level.
How to play
Your objective is to survive the aerial onslaught and destroy the boss bomber to clear the stage. Use the Arrow keys to steer your plane, press X (A) to fire your machine guns at airborne enemies, and press Z (B) to drop torpedoes to sink ships and submarines below. Press Enter to start.
Tips
- Your torpedoes have a specific arc and take time to travel; drop them slightly ahead of moving naval targets to ensure a hit.
- Don’t stay in one place for too long. Constantly weave across the screen to avoid incoming anti-aircraft fire and enemy fighters.
