Released by Tengen in 1989 as an unlicensed port of Sega's hit arcade game, Shinobi brings the action-platforming adventures of Joe Musashi to the NES. Players step into the role of the master ninja on a mission to rescue kidnapped students of his clan from the terrorist organization Zeed. The game retains much of the arcade original's tight combat and multi-tiered level design, including its challenging boss fights and first-person shuriken-throwing bonus rounds.
How to Play
Your objective is to rescue all the hostages in each stage before proceeding to the exit and fighting the boss. The browser controls for the NES are:
- Move: Arrow Keys (Up to enter doors, Down to crouch)
- Jump: Z
- Attack: X
- Ninjutsu Magic: Enter
- Select: Shift
Tips
- Save your powerful Ninjutsu magic for boss fights or desperate situations, as it can only be used once per stage.
- Rescuing certain hostages grants power-ups, upgrading your standard throwing stars to a gun and your melee attack to a katana.
- When facing enemies taking cover behind crates, crouch and time your attacks as they briefly expose themselves to fire.
