Mito Koumon is an adventure and role-playing game developed by TOSE and published by Sunsoft for the Famicom in 1987. Based on the long-running Japanese television drama, you take on the role of a retired governor travelling across Edo-period Japan in disguise to investigate local corruption, interact with townspeople, and solve mysteries.
The game blends traditional adventure mechanics with RPG elements, where you must gather information, manage your inventory, and uncover secrets before finally exposing the villains. Because it was released exclusively in Japan and was never officially translated, navigating the investigation process relies heavily on reading the Japanese text. You can play using the standard NES controls, mapped to your keyboard’s arrow keys for movement, Z and X for the A and B buttons, and Enter and Shift for Start and Select.
