Developed by Gremlin Graphics and released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1993, Utopia: The Creation of a Nation is a sci-fi city-building and strategy game. As the administrator of a new space colony, you are tasked with constructing a thriving settlement from the ground up while managing resources, keeping colonists happy, and defending against hostile alien forces.
How to play
Your primary objective is to build a self-sustaining colony and reach a target quality of life for your citizens by balancing power generation, life support, housing, and industry. You must also establish military defenses to protect your growing infrastructure from Aurelian attacks. Playable directly in your browser, the standard SNES controls are mapped to your keyboard: use the Arrow Keys to pan the map and move your cursor, Z and X to select and cancel actions, and Enter to access the game menus.
Tips
- Prioritise building power plants and life support facilities early on, as all other structures require them to function.
- Keep a close eye on your colony’s morale; constructing hospitals, entertainment centers, and police stations is essential to prevent unrest.
- Position your defensive laser turrets and missile launchers near the edges of your settlement to intercept enemy cruisers before they can damage your vital buildings.
