Game description:

True Lies is a top-down action shooter developed by Beam Software and released for the SNES in 1995. Based on the blockbuster action film, you play as secret agent Harry Tasker, sent on a global mission to dismantle a dangerous terrorist organization. The game demands a methodical approach rather than mindless run-and-gun tactics, requiring players to utilize cover, manage different weapons, and avoid harming innocent bystanders.

How to Play

Your goal is to navigate each stage, eliminate enemy combatants, and complete specific objectives without running out of health or causing too many civilian casualties. For the SNES, the controls rely on the D-pad to move, with the A, B, X, Y, L, and R buttons handling shooting, weapon switching, and dodging. In the browser, these map to the arrow keys for movement, Z, X, A, and S for the face buttons, Q and W for the shoulder buttons, with Enter and Shift for Start and Select.

Tips

  • Watch your fire: Civilians are scattered throughout the warzones. Shooting three non-combatants in a single stage results in an immediate game over.
  • Use the dodge roll: Harry has a dedicated dive roll. Use it to quickly cross open sightlines, evade incoming fire, and drop behind cover.
  • Scavenge for supplies: Explore thoroughly and shoot wooden crates to uncover health kits, armor, and weapon upgrades like the shotgun and flamethrower.
