Game description:

Zero 4 Champ RR is a highly unique hybrid of drag racing and role-playing released for the Super Famicom in 1994 by Media Rings. Unlike standard racing games, you play as an 18-year-old driver trying to make a name in the professional drag racing scene. To afford upgrades for licensed Japanese cars from manufacturers like Nissan, Toyota, and Honda, you have to work part-time jobsโ€”most notably as a security guard, which plays out as a classic turn-based RPG complete with random monster encounters. The core racing itself focuses on precision timing and manual gear shifting across a 400-meter straightaway.

How to Play

The objective is to win drag races by perfectly timing your acceleration and manually shifting gears to maximize your speed, while managing your finances and character progression in the RPG segments between races. Because this is an SNES title, the default browser controls map the D-pad to the Arrow keys, the A and B buttons to Z and X, and Start/Select to Enter and Shift.

Tips

  • Master the Launch: In the drag racing segments, timing your initial acceleration exactly as the light turns green is critical for getting an early lead.
  • Grind the RPG Jobs: Don’t neglect your security guard duties. The money earned from the RPG combat encounters is essential for buying the best parts and cars to stay competitive in the later races.
