Yamamura Misa Suspense: Kyouto Zaiteku Satsujin Jiken is a 1990 Famicom mystery adventure developed by TOSE and published by Hect, the third and final entry in a trilogy based on the novels of Misa Yamamura, one of Japan’s best-known mystery writers and a specialist in Kyoto-set murder plots. The story opens with the protagonist waiting to meet a friend who never shows up, only for another close friend to turn up dead, kicking off an investigation that, unlike the series’ earlier two games, the player carries out in person rather than through the trilogy’s recurring detective character. What sets this entry apart is its “zaiteku” system, a real stock-trading simulation built into the mystery: pushing the case forward means actually growing your money on the market, a nod to the financial-speculation craze of Japan’s late-1980s bubble economy.
How to Play
Like other command-select mystery adventures on NES, you investigate by choosing actions and dialogue from on-screen menus rather than controlling a moving character. Use the D-pad (arrow keys in the browser) to highlight a command, A (Z) to select it, B (X) to cancel or back out of a menu, and Start (Enter) to open the pause/system menu.
Tips
- Keep working the zaiteku stock-trading system throughout the game rather than ignoring it – the story is gated behind the money it earns you, so falling behind on investing can stall your progress on the case.
