Winter Games is a multi-event winter sports competition from Epyx, the studio behind Summer Games and California Games â the signature format of stringing together Olympic-style events into one package. Released in 1985 for the Atari 2600, it puts one or two players through a run of winter disciplines, accumulating results across events to find an overall champion.
How to play
Player 1 moves with the arrow keys and fires with Spacebar. Player 2 uses T/G/F/H for direction and A to fire. Additional controls: F12 resets, F11 is SELECT, Alt+P pauses, F2 toggles colour/black-and-white mode, and Alt+L switches between paddle and joystick input.
Tips
- Each event uses the joystick and trigger button differently. On your first attempt at an unfamiliar event, hold back for a moment to learn what the fire button does â many events punish a premature press more than a late one.
- In launch events like ski jump, wait for the slope to level before pressing the trigger. Timing the release at exactly the right instant adds meaningful distance compared to firing on instinct.
- With two players, score gaps compound quickly in events where one player has sharper timing. Identify your opponent’s weak events early and attack those, rather than trying to compete evenly across everything.
