Wing Commander: The Secret Missions is a standalone space combat simulation released for the SNES in 1993. Originally an expansion pack for the PC classic, this port brings the campaign to consoles, putting you back in the cockpit on the TCS Tiger’s Claw. Your objective is to defend the Goddard colony and pursue the Kilrathi fleet, who are wielding a devastating new superweapon known as the Sivar dreadnought. The game retains the signature 3D dogfighting, requiring tactical power management and coordination with your wingmen.
How to Play
Pilot your starfighter through a series of branching missions. In the browser emulator, use the Arrow Keys to steer your ship. Press Z (mapped to B) to fire your lasers and X (mapped to A) to fire missiles. Use A (mapped to Y) for your afterburners, S (mapped to X) to cycle through targets, and Q and W (L and R triggers) to roll. Press Shift (Select) to access your navigation and communications menu to give orders to your wingman.
Tips
- Keep a close eye on your energy reserves. Using your afterburners drains the same power source needed for your lasers, leaving you vulnerable if you overextend.
- Use your radar effectively to spot Kilrathi fighters attempting to get on your tail, and order your wingman to break formation and attack when you are outnumbered.
- If you take heavy fire from a specific direction, use your ship’s computer to redirect shield power to the weakened quadrant before your hull takes permanent damage.
