Game description:

Developed by Nintendo EAD and released in 1996, Wave Race 64 is a pioneering jet ski racing game for the Nintendo 64. Renowned for its groundbreaking dynamic water physics, the game requires players to navigate challenging courses where every wave affects handling. You choose from a roster of racers, each with distinct acceleration, top speed, and maneuverability stats, competing across varied environments from sunny beaches to twilight harbors.

How to Play

The objective is to win the championship by completing laps and successfully passing on the correct side of the colored buoysโ€”red buoys on the right, yellow buoys on the left. Missing five buoys in a single race results in an immediate disqualification. In the browser emulator, the N64 analog stick is typically mapped to the Arrow Keys for steering. Use Z to accelerate (A button), X to brake or reverse (B button), and Enter to pause (Start button).

Tips

  • Passing buoys correctly increases your power meter; reach maximum power to gain a significant speed boost.
  • If you launch off a ramp, pressing down on the analog stick (down arrow) right as you jump can help you catch more air, but make sure to level out before landing to maintain speed.
  • Customizing your jet ski’s handling before a race is crucialโ€”tight handling is better for twisting courses, while a heavier grip suits rougher waters.
