Game description:

Pilot the experimental Morphing Battle System in Vortex, a groundbreaking 1994 3D shooter for the SNES developed by Argonaut Software. Powered by the Super FX chip, this ambitious title lets you transform your craft into four distinct formsโ€”a speedy Sonic Jet, a heavily-armed Walker, a nimble Land Rover, and an impenetrable Hard Shellโ€”to battle the hostile forces of the Aki-Do system across fully three-dimensional environments.

How to Play

Your objective is to navigate seven diverse worlds, destroying enemy installations and surviving to the end of each level. Mastering the four transformations is key to victory. By default, the SNES controls are mapped to your keyboard: use the Arrow Keys to move, Z and X for your primary weapons and abilities, and Q and W (L and R buttons) to cycle through the mech’s different forms. Press Enter to pause or confirm selections.

Gameplay Tips

  • Choose the right form: The Walker is excellent for precise ground combat, while the Sonic Jet is necessary for crossing chasms and moving quickly. Use the Hard Shell when overwhelmed by enemy fire to recharge your shields.
  • Watch your energy: Firing weapons and taking damage drains your energy. Pick up power-ups dropped by defeated enemies to restore health and weapon power.
