Twin Cobra is a vertical scrolling shoot ’em up from Toaplan, converted to the NES from the 1987 arcade original. You pilot a military helicopter over enemy-occupied ground, shooting down aircraft and destroying tanks and artillery across a series of scrolling stages. It shares its lineage with Toaplan’s Tiger Heli — the same top-down military action, pushed harder and faster.
How to Play
Move with the arrow keys. Z fires your main weapon (NES B button) and X fires your secondary weapon (NES A button). Power-up icons dropped by destroyed enemies strengthen your firepower level by level — collect them quickly, because a single hit drops your weapons back down. Enter starts the game; Shift maps to SELECT.
Tips
- Prioritise power-up collection above all else. The difference between base and fully powered weapons is dramatic, and rebuilding after a death mid-stage is one of the hardest spots in the game.
- Stay toward the centre of the screen where possible — it gives you the most room to dodge incoming fire from both flanks and keeps more of the playfield visible.
- Memorise the opening enemy waves. Toaplan stages follow consistent patterns, and knowing where the first formations spawn lets you pre-position rather than react under fire.
