George Foreman’s KO Boxing is a 1992 sports game for the Sega Master System. Developed by SIMS, this 8-bit version is distinctly different from its 16-bit counterparts; it is actually a rebranded release of the side-scrolling fighting game James “Buster” Douglas Knockout Boxing (also known as Heavyweight Champ). Players step into the ring as Foreman to battle through a series of fictional boxers across multiple circuits to claim the heavyweight championship belt.
Unlike over-the-shoulder boxing titles, the game uses a traditional 2D side-on perspective. You maneuver left and right to control the ring, throwing a mix of body blows, straight punches, and uppercuts. In your browser, the Master System’s D-pad is mapped to your arrow keys, with the 1 and 2 buttons mapped to Z and X. When the timing is right, landing a heavy final blow can instantly knock down your opponent.
Keep a close eye on your fighter’s stamina, as throwing too many missed punches will leave you exhausted and unable to defend effectively. Focus on dodging or blocking incoming attacks, then counter-punching quickly when your opponent drops their guard to leave themselves exposed.
