Rally-X is a top-down maze action game from Namco, originally released in arcades in 1980 and ported to the Sega SG-1000. You steer a blue car through a sprawling, scrolling labyrinth, collecting checkpoint flags while a fleet of red enemy cars hunts you down. A fuel gauge drains continuously — collect flags to replenish it, because the stage ends the instant you run dry.
How to Play
Each stage holds a set of checkpoint flags scattered across the maze. Collect every one to advance to the next round. Only part of the grid is visible at any moment, so use the radar display in the corner to track flag positions and spot approaching enemy cars before they appear on screen. One flag per stage is the Special Flag; grabbing it multiplies the score value of every remaining flag collected that round, making it well worth a detour.
When enemies close in, press Z to release a smoke screen behind your car. Smoke confuses pursuers for a few seconds, but it burns fuel faster than normal driving — deploy it at corners when enemies are directly on your tail rather than as a constant measure.

Tips
- Find the Special Flag first. The point multiplier applies to every flag you collect after it, so an early grab pays dividends for the rest of the stage.
- Watch the radar more than the road. Enemy cars navigate the maze independently; knowing they are converging on a corridor ahead of you is far more valuable than reacting when you see them on screen.
- Treat smoke as a last resort. Burning it in open stretches often trades a momentary escape for a fuel shortage later in the stage.
