TransBot is a classic sci-fi shoot ’em up developed by Sega for the Master System. Originally released as Astro Flash in Japan, the game puts players in the cockpit of the CA-214 starfighter as they battle across diverse landscapes and underground bases to stop the rogue artificial intelligence, Dalaus. The game’s defining feature is its power-up system, which allows your spacecraft to temporarily transform into a powerful flying robot.
How to play
The objective is to survive as long as possible while blasting waves of enemy forces, as the game loops endlessly. Use the directional pad to maneuver your ship around the screen, press Button 1 to fire your weapon, and press Button 2 to activate your transformation once you have collected a power-up. In the browser emulator, these are typically mapped to the Arrow Keys for movement and the Z and X keys for your action buttons.
Tips
- When a carrier ship appears, destroy it to release a power-up orb. These orbs cycle through letters (A through G); collecting the orb when it displays your desired letter will transform your ship and equip a specific weapon, such as a spread shot or a powerful laser.
- Transformations only last for a limited time. Keep an eye on your energy meter, and try to chain power-ups by destroying more carrier ships before your current upgrade runs out.
