Game description:

Tobidase Daisakusen, known internationally as The 3-D Battles of WorldRunner, is an ambitious forward-scrolling action game developed by Square for the Famicom in 1987. Taking inspiration from pseudo-3D arcade classics, it throws you into a surreal, fast-paced sprint across alien worlds. You must constantly run forward, leaping over bottomless pits, dodging obstacles, and blasting bizarre creatures before facing off against serpentine bosses at the end of each world. This specific version was designed to be compatible with the Famicom 3D System’s active shutter glasses for a true stereoscopic effect.

How to Play

Your objective is to reach the end of each scrolling stage before the time limit runs out, navigating treacherous gaps and fighting a boss dragon in the final zone of each world. Since the game moves forward automatically, your focus is entirely on maneuvering and timing your jumps. Use the Arrow Keys to steer left and right or accelerate/decelerate. Press Z or X to jump, shoot missiles (once collected), and navigate menus. Use Enter for Start and Shift for Select.

Tips

  • Your jumping distance and height depend on your current forward speed. Accelerate before attempting to clear wide chasms.
  • Collect stars scattered along the path to extend your time limit, as the clock drains quickly during long stretches.
  • Keep an eye out for hidden items by bumping into columns; some grant invincibility, missiles, or extra lives.
