Thunderbirds is a 1989 top-down action shooter for the NES, developed by Pack-In-Video. Based on the classic British television series, the game puts players in command of the iconic International Rescue fleet. You primarily pilot Thunderbird 2 through vertically scrolling stages, blasting waves of enemy aircraft and ground installations to foil the destructive plans of the villainous Hood.
As a traditional shoot 'em up, the objective is to survive the onslaught of enemy fire and destroy targets as the screen scrolls forward. At the end of each stage, you face a heavily armed boss vehicle to clear the mission. In the browser, use the arrow keys to maneuver your craft. Press Z and X to fire your weapons and deploy secondary attacks, while Enter and Shift act as your Start and Select buttons.
Tips
- Prioritize evasive maneuvering over aggressive shooting; the screen fills quickly with projectiles, so threading the gaps is often safer than trying to destroy every enemy.
- Because enemy flight patterns are fixed and repeat on every playthrough, use your early runs to memorize where large waves spawn so you can pre-fire those positions.
