Test Drive II: The Duel is a classic racing simulator released by Accolade in 1989 for the SNES. Known for its intense police chases and unforgiving traffic, you take the wheel of either a Porsche 959 or a Ferrari F40 in a high-speed dash across diverse landscapes. The game demands precise driving and manual gear shifting as you navigate winding roads and dodge oncoming cars while racing against the clock and a computer opponent.
How to Play
Your goal is to complete each leg of the journey as quickly as possible without wrecking your car or running out of fuel. Use the arrow keys to steer, Z to accelerate, and X to brake. You must manually shift gears using A or S (or the shoulder buttons Q and E). Carefully manage your RPMs to avoid blowing the engine, and make sure to pull into the gas station at the end of each stage to refuel.
Tips
- Watch the police radar: When the radar starts beeping, a cop is nearby. You can either slow down and pull over to take a time penalty, or try to outrun them by staying at top speed.
- Don’t skip the gas station: At the end of a leg, slow down and steer into the gas station. If you speed past it, you will start the next stage with whatever fuel is left and eventually run dry.
- Shift carefully: Keep an eye on your tachometer. Shifting too early bogs down your acceleration, while downshifting at high speeds will instantly blow your engine and cost you a life.
