Game description:

Terminator 2: Judgment Day for the SNES is a 1993 action game developed by Bits Studios that closely follows the events of the blockbuster film. As the reprogrammed T-800, your mission is to protect John and Sarah Connor from the relentless T-1000. Rather than a straightforward beat-’em-up, the game mixes brawling, objective-based exploration where you search for specific items, and top-down driving sequences between iconic locations like the truck stop, the mall, and Pescadero State Hospital.

How to Play

The game is notoriously challenging, featuring limited lives, no password system, and punishing enemy encounters. In the side-scrolling stages, you must complete specific mission objectivesโ€”such as locating key items or individualsโ€”before you can progress. During the driving segments, you must navigate to your destination by following a compass while avoiding damage.

Controls: Use the Arrow Keys (D-pad) to move or steer, Z (B) to jump, A (Y) to attack or shoot, and S (X) to cycle weapons. Press Enter (Start) to pause and view your current objectives through the T-800’s HUD.

Tips

  • Check every door: The locations of key objectives, such as Sarah Connor’s hospital room or John’s ID card, are often randomized in each playthrough. You must explore thoroughly rather than relying on a memorized route.
  • Conserve your ammo: Firearms are highly effective but ammunition is scarce. Rely on hand-to-hand combat against regular street thugs and save your shotgun shells for tougher enemies and bosses.
  • Follow the compass: In the driving stages, fighting the T-1000’s pursuit vehicle will only drain your health. Focus entirely on the compass at the top of the screen to reach your destination as quickly as possible.
