Game description:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is the iconic 1989 action-platformer developed by Konami for the NES. Players navigate a top-down overworld to explore New York City, dropping into side-scrolling action stages to battle the Foot Clan, Mousers, and classic villains. Known for its punishing difficulty and memorable set pieces, the game lets you switch between Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello on the fly, using their unique weapons and distinct play styles to survive the perilous journey.

How to Play

Your objective is to defeat Shredder and save April O’Neil and Splinter. You explore the overhead map to find manholes, buildings, and other entrances to the side-scrolling levels. In the browser, the default NES controls use the arrow keys to move, Z and X to jump and attack. Press Enter (Start) to pause the game and access the menu to instantly swap your active turtle at any time.

Tips

  • Save Donatello for bosses: His bo staff has incredible reach and deals double damage compared to the other turtles’ default weapons, making him invaluable for tough encounters.
  • Farm pizzas: Enemies and pizza drops respawn when you leave and re-enter buildings. If a turtle is low on health, find a building with a pizza near the entrance, grab it, exit, and repeat to heal your entire team.
  • The Dam level: In the infamous underwater bomb defusal stage, memorize the layout and avoid the electric seaweed at all costs, as it drains your health rapidly. Switch to a turtle with low health if you know you are about to take unavoidable damage to spare your strongest fighters.
